Gravel extraction is damaging our fishery!

It is clear for anyone to see. This is a low water picture! It may be too late to reverse this damage but lets hope not!

One thing is for certain we must do something!

This is a disturbing photo Andrew. What effect do you think it might have on the fishing? Who can we contact to try to get this stopped?

    Cheers

In order to build up pressure it would be helpful if you would express your concerns to the Llangadog Angling Limited in the first instance. There are a number of members who are in contact with the EA, Carms Council and other bodies but so far no one seems to be interested! I think that at the end of the day it is up to LAL to sort it out otherwise they may loose some valuable members!

Would it be a good idea for some of the anglers who fish the beat to approach the person responsible for the extraction, to voice their concern and see what can be done?

    Might be worth a go?

  4. It would be a good idea. I think Cerith who is on the main committee could do this. Having seen this part of the beat this week I am of the opinion that if he continues to take gravel then it is only a matter of time before the river will follow this new course even at low water! This will mean that we will lose a good length of holding water!

I have personally spoken to the farmer involved after a complaint we received in the summer of 2007. I know this farmer very well and I kindly asked him to stop the gravel extraction and he said he would. There has been no gravel extraction from the beat since last summer. I also had words with friends of mine who work for the EA. They were of the opinion that nothing much could be done (same as the response in the letter above), As far as I was concerned the matter was closed.
